Teaser:

“Men shouldn’t know how to decorate anyway, using words like gaudy.” I let one brow raise and give him a suspicious smirk. “Do I need to learn how to fix the cars then? What if I get a flat?” “Oh baby,” he growls, his feet pounding the floor as he stalks toward me, “you questioning my manliness?” “Maybe,” I tease, slowing backing up. “Nancy.” My eyes dart anxiously around the room, mentally planning my escape route in this new territory. He laughs deeply, not a ‘ha ha that’s funny’ laugh, but more an ‘uh huh I’m coming to get ya’ sexy laugh. “Got it planned yet?” He grins knowingly, one eyebrow cocked. “Better run to wherever looks the most comfortable.” There’s no furniture yet, what is he talking about comfortable? Seeing the confusion on my face, he answers unasked. “Showing you how much of a man I am when I catch ya,” he creeps closer, “so I’d stay away from the tile, might hurt your back,” the mischief in his eyes ignites as he continues moving slowly closer, “or your knees.” Do I still have to pretend I don’t want to be caught? I love this side of Dane; the dominant, controlling, hunter than comes out more and more every day. The game’s precept itself is laughable; no one could question Dane’s virility. It seeps from his pores, an aura around him taking up all the air in a room. And he’s all mine. From his forever jostled brown locks and matching warm eyes, cocky lopsided grin and sculpted chest all the way to his eight back, that irresistible v and toned, tight ass- he is mine. “You wouldn’t!” I challenge, knowingly delightfully well that he would. “Oh baby, you know I can and will.” He flips open the button on his pants, that cocky grin suffocating me from where he stands, “I think you want me to.”

The Will To Love ~ Cover Reveal

The Will to Love Cover

add-to-goodreads-button31

Synopsis

“I wasn’t looking for love, only a good time and a way to tour the world with a rock band when he came along and hit me like a hurricane. Nothing could have prepared for me for the complexity that was Will Cullen. He hid a secret that would devour me whole and spit me out. The only problem I had was how did I let go when I decided to give my heart to the very man I would never be able to control and who would always be just beyond my reach?” – Laurel Munsen

Will Cullen has always been comfortable in his own skin, even it was behind the scenes as the bass player for Scarlet Fever. He’s always known he was gay and accepted his sexuality even if he couldn’t be out and proud as a member of one of the most popular rock bands in the world.

Laurel was supposed to be a diversion, a beard to hide behind while he and his lover, drummer Grant MacMullen, continued their hot and heavy relationship. Grant breaks his heart and admits there can never be a future between them.

It is Laurel who picks up the pieces and although he knows what they have together is wrong and conforming to society’s standards of what love supposed to be, how can he rectify his strong attraction and desire for men while he is falling in love with a woman?

Both Laurel and Will learn the fluidity of human emotions and together, they gather the strength and courage to live life, understand each other and love with heart, body, mind and soul.

Note: This story is about a homosexual man who happens to fall in love with a heterosexual woman but it does not negate his homosexual status nor is the author implying sexuality is a choice; rather that most of the time, we don’t and cannot choose the person we fall in love with and decide to give our heart and soul.

TEASER..

Will walked outside and knelt before me. “Fuck. What the hell did I do now?”
“Nothing,” I said before I turned to look at the pool and swallowed, the harsh bitterness of the Xanax pill still left in my mouth. “I realize everything that has happened between us is on me. Grant always came first and I was a distant second but now that he’s gone, I truly wonder if there is any room past that empty spot he’s left inside of you for me? We don’t choose who we fall in love with and God knows if I could take my feelings back for you, I would.”
I paused and stared into those vast pools of blue. “But I can’t and I won’t. Now, the onus is on you. Do you or don’t you want to be with me? If you can’t, I truly understand because it just isn’t the way you’re hardwired. We were never supposed to be in the first place. However, if you do want me, then it has to be just you and I. No one else and certainly no one night stands or interlopers. I have to know I can trust you or we won’t work out. Do you understand that?”
He nodded, his silky blond hair blowing in the soft breeze. “Of course I want to be with you or I wouldn’t have said no to coming out and I sure as hell wouldn’t have invited you to Vegas. If this works out and we sign this contract, this affects your life just as much as it does mine. I can understand if what we have isn’t important enough for you to uproot your life and change everything just to be with me.”
“Oh, but it is…and my question to you is can you make that sacrifice because no matter how you look at our situation, you are doing something that is against your very nature. You’re denying a part of yourself to be with me and I can’t help but feel like I am the most selfish bitch in the world for making you do that.”
“Listen to me,” Will said as he grabbed my jaw with both hands and held my face softly. “I’m not doing anything I don’t want to do. If you’ll have me then I’m yours. It’s as simple as that.”
I nodded and we kissed each other on the lips before I embraced him. I couldn’t understand why I was holding on so tight and then it hit me like a wrecking ball. I was scared if I didn’t hold him like he was the only man in the world, he might disappear and leave me all alone with my emotions and the thought was too much to bear.

Excerpts
EXCERPT ONE

I had talked to Drew on three previous occasions over the summer, each time wanting nothing more than to be left alone. Our fourth conversation took place the day I got arrested, and it changed everything. It was the middle of July and Tropical Storm Andrea was bearing down on the South Carolina coast. Most people were secure in their homes for the day, avoiding the winds and flash flooding, heeding the warnings of local officials. But to me, those warnings were made to be ignored, especially when the advisories called for waves that would be six to eight feet high.
Surfing is how I find peace. It’s the purest form of escape I’ve ever known. I had always felt like that, but after what happened to me a couple of months ago, having an escape from everyday life was more critical to my survival than ever. I had fled from my life a few months ago, leaving Florida and ending up in the Charleston, South Carolina, area. I had escaped in a literal, physical sense, but I still craved the mental escape, and for me there was no better way to do that than riding waves.
The tide was going out—a good thing in any tropical storm or hurricane—and as I walked across the sand toward the water, the incoming waves hurled themselves toward the beach, crashing violently and disintegrating, followed shortly by another, another, another… The waves here on Isle of Palms are sometimes pretty decent and surfing-worthy, but nothing like the ones provided by Tropical Storm Andrea. I walked into the ocean, feeling the undertow pulling at my ankles, almost urging me to go farther out, an urging I didn’t need because I was about to get in some of the best surfing I’d had since arriving here. Past the first few breakers, I placed my board down on the water, flopped my belly down on it, and began paddling. First straight out, then parallel to the beach, waiting for the wave that would take me back to shore. I chose my wave, paddling myself into position. My brain switched into what I call Surfing Escape Mode:
I’m on the wave. It’s powerful. Rough. Almost violent. It pushes me. Lifts me.
I’m free.
I have to work to remain free—flexing my leg muscles; using my arms to balance my body; shifting my center mass to stay steady; all of this is work, hard work, but the payoff is being free.
It’s usually over in a matter of seconds like that. But those real-time seconds are long dream-like minutes, and that’s exactly what I desire.
The freedom didn’t last long that day, though, because as I trudged through the knee-deep water where the ride ended, I looked up and saw a cop. He stood facing me, a few dozen yards away up on the beach.
I don’t know how long he had been there. Probably just a few minutes. But if he’d been yelling, I hadn’t heard it, thanks to the noise of the roiling Atlantic, and the wind. It was mid-afternoon, but the storm made it seem like dusk. Using his flashlight, the cop motioned for me to get out of the water and come toward him.
I had a choice to make: either pick up my board and obey the officer, or ignore him and go back out for one more wave.

EXCERPT TWO
(This takes place during Leah and Drew's first serious conversation.)

He picked up his hat and held it over the empty plate, wringing it out. There wasn’t very much water in it, just enough to make a little puddle on the plate. He put the hat on, pulled it down just enough to where I could still see his eyes. He finally answered, and it wasn’t what I expected at all.
You’re the first girl I’ve ever seen surfing around here. I mean really surfing, not just messing around. That interested me. That’s why I talked to you those times. Because you were different. Like me. You’re a risk-taker, but something’s holding you back. Something happened to you. That’s why you’re here. That’s why you mostly keep to yourself. That’s why you have those walls up.”
I felt my eyes narrowing in anger. I didn’t like this at all. Everything he was saying was true. And it pissed me off. I slid off the seat and stood. “I have to go.”
I started walking toward the door and I had just picked up my surfboard when he said, “Leah, wait. I’m sorry.”
I turned around.
He got up and moved toward me. “It’s raining like crazy, it’s still windy. At least let me drive you home.”
I looked out the window and saw that it was still quite blustery. Walking home with this surfboard wouldn’t have been much fun. And it was only a short distance, which meant I wouldn’t have to put up with him for long. I pushed the door open and started to walk out. “Okay. But stop psychoanalyzing me.”
He held the door open for me. “Done.”
